E & O Fish Head Curry @ Taman Wahyu

Possibly the best fish head curry restaurant in North KL and certainly  our regular haunt, it E & O Kari Kepala Ikan at Taman Wahyu off Jalan Kuching.

Must try include the  fish head curry, served in a heated pot with lots of vegetables (lady's fingers, brinjal, tomatoes and green chilli). Some tau foo pok as well to soak up the thick and tasty curry.

Don't miss the fried chicken, crispy and crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. KFC doesn't come close, taste wise.

One of their signature dishes is the fried slipper lobster. The flour used to coat the bits of meat are spicy and crunchy. Very addictive.

Don't expect much in terms of vegetables. Stick with some piquant pickled vegetables (cucumber, onions, long beans and chilli). Another good bet if it's available is the sambal petai.

Give it a try if you're in the Taman Wahyu area.

Tasty Chapatti, Jalan Ipoh

Located at the Viva commercial complex off Jalan Ipoh, Tasty Chapatti is a hidden gem for Punjabi food in KL. The namesake chapattis are soft and tasty, though rather small in size. You would need about 3 chapattis for an average eater. A good way to start would be to order the Chapatti set which comes with choice of two vegetables, dhall, papadam, two chapattis and an Indian sweet (laddu in this case).
A la carte orders allow more exploration. A very simple dish which goes very well with the chapatti is sardine curry.
Masala chicken is another good choice to accompany the chappati.
Mutton keema (minced mutton) is good and relatively mild on the spice scale.
If the spices start getting to you, cool down with a mango lassi - great for keeping cool.
Also recommended are the Sarron Ka Saag which is a combination of various types of vegetables including spinach and mustard greens. It looks mushy but is very tasty and is a very authentic Punjabi staple. Best eaten with a nice dollop of ghee.
