Naked Restaurant @ Plaza Damas

Another lunch option at Plaza Damas.

Pretty standard stuff. Salad with set lunch.
Or soup.
Grilled beef sandwich.
Spicy tuna sphagetti.
Interesting decor. Red staircase.
Verdict. Overall OK but not outstanding.

Location : Block E-0-2 & E-1-2 Plaza Damas, Sri Hartamas

CLOSED : Lavinier Coffee and Bistro @ Publika

UPDATE : As at November 2012, this restaurant has unfortunately ceased operations. It was good while it lasted.

I've been eating a lot at Publika (Solaris Dutamas) of late and have tried most of the outlets there. One of the the best value lunch on offer is at Lavinier Coffee and Bistro. Describing itself as "Mediterranean, Yugoslavian and Entertainment" its actually a mish-mash of cuisines and influences with a strong leaning towards Yugoslavian, Bosnian and Eastern European food.

For the RM19.90 set lunch, you get:-
Bread with an eggplant dip or,
Bread with hummus (Middle Eastern chickpea and tahini). This was followed by Mushroom soup. The lemon wedge gave a nice tanginess to the soup.

For mains there are a few choices but the Sarajeva Cevapi which is a sandwich with lamb, chicken and mutton kebabs served with a salad and fries was a good choice.
The pizza was Hawaiian (from Hawaii of course, not Italy) ! Not by choice but because it was the only pizza on the set lunch menu :-)
There was a slice of cake for dessert as well but I forgot to take a pix. The coffee is freshly brewed. I found out the beans are sourced from Thailand. It was dark roasted so the aromas and flavours of the coffee were not very discernible.
Considering everything you get, it's definitely the best value lunch at Publika at the moment.

S.Wine at Publika, Solaris Dutamas

It's a full pork fest at S.Wine, the non-halal cafe situated inside Ben's Independent Grocer (BIG) at Publika in Solaris Dutamas.
First up is the pork burger; juicy, thick and succulent. Accompanied by crispy fries and a side of coleslaw, it's almost perfect. Highly recommended.
The Serrano ham with melon was good.
The watermelon and longan salad was a clever mix of sweet, savory and tangy.
Spaghetti carbonara had too much sauce for our liking. It was runny even after mixing in the raw egg yolk.
The spaghetti aglio olio on the other hand was excellent, al-dente pasta with juicy mushrooms and crispy roasted pork in a light olive oil (and lard) sauce. Recommended.
The Hainanese pork chop is very popular. Quite a large serving and good for sharing. Old school tomato based sauce and lots of crispy fries on the side.
The Lemongrass Pork Chop on the other hand is served with rice, duck with salted vegetable soup and an omelet. The well marinated pork chop is great with the rice. Recommended.
The roast pork rice was served with the same duck with salted vegetable soup, which is quite nice. The roasted pork was good but not exceptional.
The rice with pork cutlets was tasty and somewhat better than the roasted pork. It came with the same soup too!

Overall, good food and good service too. They don't take reservations so go early for lunch or dinner to get a table as the limited number of tables gets filled very quickly.

If you still have place for desserts, go to the Plan B Roasters outside and have a choice of cake with the excellent coffee there.
