Naked Restaurant @ Plaza Damas

Another lunch option at Plaza Damas.

Pretty standard stuff. Salad with set lunch.
Or soup.
Grilled beef sandwich.
Spicy tuna sphagetti.
Interesting decor. Red staircase.
Verdict. Overall OK but not outstanding.

D Fong @ Verve Suite, Mont Kiara

D'Fong has been around for a few months now after the Verve Suites and Shops opened.

Looking at the turquoise and white decor, I was expecting a Western cafe. But it turned out to be a local Malaysian cafe - East meets West with quite a few Chinese dishes and Dim Sum too.

The Grilled Pork Chop Rice was a winner. Tasty grilled pork chop that was still moist inside with some warm rice and a tangy sauce. Reminded me of Vietnamese pork chop rice. Yummy.
The Crispy Chicken Chop with Tomato Fried Rice was a miss though. The chicken was crispy but a bit oily. The tomato fried rice? what was it supposed to be ? Fried rice with tomato sauce thrown in ?
The Siew Mai were quite large and substantial for RM5.80. Moist and tasty. Thumbs up again.
Kiwi Smoothie - RM5 add on to the set lunch. Good taste and good value.

If you're in Mont Kiara and looking for nice local food in a nice environment, give D Fong a try. We'll be back to try more for sure. It located at the Verve Shops at Mont Kiara.

Sentul Ah Yap Charcoal Hokkien Mee Restaurant @ Rivercity

A relatively new place at Rivercity, Jalan Ipoh is a branch of the famous Sentul Ah Yap Charcoal Hokkien Mee. We've tried it a few times the food is pretty decent, but not particularly outstanding

The signature Hokkien Mee for example would not stand up to several other top Hokkien Mee places along Jalan Ipoh. Needs more lard in my opinion.
The Ying Yong - Cantonese fried mee hoon and kuey teow was also decent but not outstanding.
Pork in two styles - sweet sour and another in mayonnaise sauce. Both tasted rather weird. Hmmmm.

Besides noddles, they have rice with dishes too. Give it a try. Its located on the side of the AEON Big supermarket at Rivercity facing Jalan Kasippillay.

Menya Kamikaze @ 1 Mont Kiara Plaza

New restaurant at 1 Mont Kiara Plaza.

Simple decor. Open kitchen concept.
They specialize in ramen. It's non halal. Soup is boiled for long hours resulting in rich and deeply flavored broth.
I had the black sesame version. Really rich.
There's also a cold noodle version served with thick dipping gravy.  Nice as well.

Tiam Oon @ Taman Kok Lian

For fans who have been waiting for updates on Restoran Tiam Oon, my apologies for the delay. They moved to  Taman Kok Lian, sandwiched between 4 1/2 mile Jalan Ipoh and Jalan Kuching, somewhere near the exit to the Duke Highway.

Tiam Oon is now operating in the compound of a temple, with dining tables in a little garden compound. It's nice and airy outside and somewhat better than the stuffy covered area.
Tiam Oon has gained fame for its' three color pan mee. It's made using three types of flour using pumpkin (orange), yam (purple) and spinach (green). The anchovy stock is a perfect foil, nice an flavorful but not overpowering the subtle taste of the various noodles. Highly recommended.
The khow yoke noodles are sinful. The fatty, melt-in-your-mouth khow yoke  make a great topping for the simple noodles topped with both spring onions and deep fried shallots. Recommended as well.
For a lighter choice, try the fried beehoon. Make sure you squeeze the provided calamansi  on the noodles and give it a toss. The tanginess of the calamansi takes this dish to a higher level. Recommended.
A nice side dish would be the Thai style deep fried taufoo. Crispy on the outside and soft and juicy inside, the taufoo is topped with julienned cucumber and  jicama (sengkuang) with a sweet spicy peanut sauce. Good to the last drop.
You can add your favorite style of chilli (chopped cili padi, pounded  chillies or chilli sambal) according to your own liking.
A closer look at the 3 color pan mee

E & O Fish Head Curry @ Taman Wahyu

Possibly the best fish head curry restaurant in North KL and certainly  our regular haunt, it E & O Kari Kepala Ikan at Taman Wahyu off Jalan Kuching.

Must try include the  fish head curry, served in a heated pot with lots of vegetables (lady's fingers, brinjal, tomatoes and green chilli). Some tau foo pok as well to soak up the thick and tasty curry.

Don't miss the fried chicken, crispy and crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. KFC doesn't come close, taste wise.

One of their signature dishes is the fried slipper lobster. The flour used to coat the bits of meat are spicy and crunchy. Very addictive.

Don't expect much in terms of vegetables. Stick with some piquant pickled vegetables (cucumber, onions, long beans and chilli). Another good bet if it's available is the sambal petai.

Give it a try if you're in the Taman Wahyu area.

Tasty Chappati is the name of the restaurant and tasty chappatis are what you get. A good place to start is the Chappati Set. You get 2 chappatis, dhall, 2 vegetables, pappadam and and Indian sweet for dessert. All for RM7.90. Great value.
Add on orders can include Mutton Keema
Chicken Marsala

Wash down all the spicy food with a cold mango lassi. Guaranteed satisfaction.
